Abolish Frat Culture - I went to university in the 1980’s and there was a frat/sorority culture. Even then I was suspicious of that part of university culture. Like collegiate athletics, I thought it was a huge waste of time and a cross-purposes to the goals of the academy. But its association with rape culture is untenable. I haven’t really been following the news; but I’ve heard something tangential about institutionalized sexual assault at one of Cornell’s fraternities. Yes, university is about broadening one’s horizons, learning, self-discovery and all of that. But systematic sexual assault? Universities need to shut down these “Greek” organizations. All of that debauchery is sickening.
