I ran across this article Everyone’s packing up on Hacker News; and it struck a chord. The author touches on a pervasive antipathy toward the big social platforms. I feel it to. I think the curve has tipped over from scarcity to abundance to a sickening over-abundance. I don’t really want to look at Instagram, not because there’s nothing there, nor because I hate it. I don’t want to look at Instagram because it’s too much. It’s endless. I feel like I just want boundaries around online content. YouTube is not dissimilar. Watch a video and it’s there waiting to pounce with another suggestion and one after that ad infinitum. It’s partly why I like personal blogs in lieu of social media. You can get your hands around it; and while a blog will grow slowly over time, it doesn’t grow infinitely in real-time.
